If you’ve been reading “Lyn On Me” from the start, you’ll probably know that I usually publish five chapters per year (excluding the end-of-season reviews). However, the 2023 season has gone into extra-time for Lyn 1896.

It’s been a long, hard year at the Bislett, and now Lyn find themselves in a promotion play-off. If they can win a two-legged tie against the 14th-placed team from the Eliteserien, Marit Enstad and her team will be playing regular top-flight football next season. (If you haven’t read Part 5 yet, I’d suggest going back there to see how Lyn got to this stage before reading on.)

As summer turns into autumn, the 2023 Norwegian football is nearing its thrilling conclusion. Lyn 1896 are once again in pursuit of promotion from the 1. divisjon, but there’s still lots of work to do if they are to reach the promised land of the Eliteserien.

Lyn 1896 are into the second half of their second season in Norway’s second tier. Naturally, they will enter August 2023 sitting in… 7th place.

It’s been another mixed campaign so far for Lyn in the 1. divisjon. Away form has been excellent, but Marit Enstad’s side are really struggling at home. If you read through Part 3, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Everyone at Lyn 1896 is getting ready for a second year in the second tier. Marit Enstad has brought in six brand-new players (and one returning hero) as she attempts to turn the agony of 2022 into ecstasy in 2023.

In football (and indeed in most sports), the difference between success and failure can be very small indeed. Just ask the supporters of Lyn 1896.

The 2022 season was Lyn’s first back in the 1. divisjon following their promotion the previous year. After a poor start, they propelled themselves up the table, but a late-season draw at home to Alta meant they missed out on automatic promotion by one point. To make matters worse, they then lost 1-0 in the Playoff Semi Final after Tromsø scored a wonder-goal from distance.

Manager Marit Enstad was very disappointed to have fallen short, but she’s staying positive ahead of the 2023 campaign. With a few reinforcements in key areas, Lyn could be in a position to mount another promotion challenge sooner rather than later. So, Marit… how’s it looking at the Bislett? It took Marit Enstad three seasons to get Lyn 1896 promoted from the 2. divisjon, having almost endured the humiliation of being relegated in her second year. Lyn’s patience was rewarded in 2022, when they returned to the 1. divisjon for the first time since the original club collapsed 12 years earlier.

Marit’s men could now look forward to rubbing shoulders with teams such as Bodø/Glimt, Fredrikstad and Tromsø. Would they survive in the second tier, or even thrive? Or would they immediately crash back down to earth with a bump?

You know the drill by now. This Season Review will take us through all of Lyn’s league and Cupen results and look at various stats before the manager details her plans for next year.
