Championship Manager: Season 99/00 was released in December 1999. Developed by Sports Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive, it was the second edition from the popular CM3 era of Championship Manager titles.
CM99/00 was the first version of SI’s hit franchise that I played in full, when I was just nine years old. This was the game that really got me hooked on CM (and later Football Manager) for life, so it holds a special place in my heart.
Throughout the 2019/2020 season, I went back in time and revisited CM99/00 in all its glory and nostalgia. As well as playing a series of short-term one-club challenges, I wrote some additional one-off articles (e.g. showing where today’s Premier League managers were 20 years ago).
NOW OR NEVERKUSEN

Between 1997 and 2002, Bayer Leverkusen were one of the unluckiest teams in world football. Having narrowly missed out on several major trophies in Germany and in Europe, they were cruelly dubbed ‘Neverkusen’. For this challenge, I gave myself three seasons – so until the end of 2001/2002 – to fill Bayer’s trophy cabinet with at least one big title.

FITBA’S COMING HOME

As of 2020, Scotland hadn’t qualified for a major men’s international tournament since 1998. The last two decades had seen several managers try – and fail – to restore a country’s footballing pride. For this challenge, I took the reins midway through the Tartan Army’s first failed qualifying campaign for Euro 2000, with the aim of changing history.
