Championship Manager 3 Revisited

Championship Manager 3 was released on 26 March 1999. Developed by Sports Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive, it was the first version in the series to run natively on Windows (previous iterations had used MS-DOS). It also kicked off the popular CM3 era that brough the series to a wider audience.

CM3 is particularly significant for me, as it was the first version of the Championship Manager I ever played – first trying out the demo when I was just 8 years old. It kicked off a love affair that is still going strong today.

In 2024, to celebrate CM3’s 25th anniversary, I will be revisiting this game with a series of articles, as well as a let’s play series with Napoli in Serie B.

CANZONE NAPOLETANA

In 1998, less than a decade after they were winning major trophies at domestic and continental level, Napoli were relegated to Serie B. This would signal a startling decline that eventually culminated in the club going into liquidation in 2004.

For this challenge, I have given myself six seasons to save the Partenopei from their Serie B misery, lead them back into Serie A, and ultimately deliver a first scudetto since 1990.

Part 2 (November 1998 to February 1999)
Part 3 (March to June 1999)

Part 4 (August to October 1999)
Part 5 (November 1999 to February 2000)
Part 6 (March to May 2000)
