Journey of a Deadman: #31 (Győr) – Welcome To The Top Flight

It’s taken a while, but today is the day that Shama Deadman finally hits the big leagues! Well, I’m not sure you would call the Hungarian first division a ‘big league’, but anyway…

After winning promotion from the NB II, the Győr squad has been rebuilt ahead of what is sure to be a much more challenging NB I season. You can read more about Shama’s rebuild in Part 30, but you can probably guess how well things have gone…

Today’s chapter will take us through the first half of the 2027/2028 season. Can Győr keep themselves clear of relegation danger? Continue reading “Journey of a Deadman: #31 (Győr) – Welcome To The Top Flight”

Women’s football – coming soon to Football Manager

As many of you may well be aware, Sports Interactive announced last week that they have begun work on introducing women’s football into Football Manager in the future.

Studio director Miles Jacobson has set out SI’s roadmap for incorporating women’s competitions into FM, explaining the sheer amount of detail that will go into making the experience as in-depth and realistic as possible.

This process will take time, and we’ve been told that women’s football WILL NOT be included on Football Manager 2022. The plan is for it to be introduced in a future FM, either on release or as free mid-season DLC – but not as a standalone game.

Women’s football is consistently one of the most requested new features FMers have asked for. The announcement of its future arrival was met with widespread praise… but also with some loud opposition.

I’ve had some time to take in this news and collect all my thoughts. So here’s what I have to say about these exciting new developments… Continue reading “Women’s football – coming soon to Football Manager”

It’s July 2027, and we’re about to enter the EIGHTH season of my Football Manager 2021 journeyman series! Where does the time fly?

Seven years of blood, sweat and glorious failure have finally paid off for Shama Deadman. In Part 29, he successfully led Győr to promotion from the NB II. They will now play in the NB I – the top level of Hungarian football – for only the second time since 2015.

Today’s chapter is the 2027/2028 season preview, as Shama rebuilds his squad for tougher challenges against Hungary’s elite teams, such as Ferencváros, Honvéd and MTK. The manager has brought in several new faces, including an England international! Continue reading “Journey of a Deadman: #30 (Győr) – Growing Pains”

Journey of a Deadman: #29 (Győr) – Celebration?

Hey there, folks. It’s time for possibly THE most important chapter of my Football Manager 2021 journeyman series so far!

It’s the 2026/2027 season finale, and Győr are closing in on a place in Hungary’s first division. In case you missed the previous chapter (and I suspect many of you have), we left them sitting 2nd in the NB II, with promotion looking almost certain barring a late collapse.

So, after seven years of frustration and failure, is THIS where Shama Deadman finally delivers his first career promotion – and maybe even a first league title? Continue reading “Journey of a Deadman: #29 (Győr) – Celebration?”

Journey of a Deadman: #27 (Győr) – Unstoppable

It’s lights out and away we go for Shama Deadman’s seventh season as a football manager!

Shama’s first year with Győr ended with his new team missed out on promotion to Hungary’s top division by just six points. During the summer break, he has brought in some fresh faces and rebuilt his tactics, which you can read about in Part 26.

Today’s chapter will take us through the first three months of the 2026/2027 NB II campaign, as Győr look to race into an early lead. But of course, with Shama at the wheel, there’s always the chance they could spin out of control and crash! Continue reading “Journey of a Deadman: #27 (Győr) – Unstoppable”

Journey of a Deadman: #26 (Győr) – Second Chance

My Football Manager 2021 journeyman series is now into its seventh season. Will it be lucky 7 for Shama Deadman as he seeks his first major success as a manager?

In Part 25, Shama completed his first season with Győr, who finished just six points off the promotion places in Hungary’s second division. He has now given himself two more years to finish the job, and return this once-great club to the top flight.

Today’s post is the 2026/2027 season preview, where we go through Győr’s summer transfers and see how the squad now looks as ETO head into the new NB II campaign. Is this their time to shine? Continue reading “Journey of a Deadman: #26 (Győr) – Second Chance”

Journey of a Deadman: #25 (Győr) – Defensive Disasters

The 2025/2026 season is almost over, and Shama Deadman is once again chasing a first career promotion.

Despite a rough start, our journeyman coach’s first season at Győr has gone pretty well. In Part 24, a fine run of form saw ETO establish themselves as serious contenders to be promoted from the NB II to Hungary’s premier division.

Shama’s previous promotion pushes with Cambrian & Clydach and then Espinho ended in failure, but will things be different this time around? Let’s read on to find out… Continue reading “Journey of a Deadman: #25 (Győr) – Defensive Disasters”

Journey of a Deadman: #24 (Győr) – Rocha ‘n’ Roll

Welcome back to my Football Manager 2021 journeyman series, where Shama Deadman is now well into his first season as manager of Győr.

If you’ve read Part 23, you’ll know that it hasn’t been the easiest of starts for Shama, who’s already sacked one of his goalkeepers and spent big on another. On the bright side, he’s unearthed a young diamond on the right wing, and Győr’s recent form has been much better.

It’s now November 2025. Can ETO keep up the momentum as they seek a return to Hungary’s top division… or will it be another winter of discontent for Shama? Continue reading “Journey of a Deadman: #24 (Győr) – Rocha ‘n’ Roll”

Journey of a Deadman: #23 (Győr) – Feeling Hungary

Shama Deadman is about to begin the sixth season of his managerial career, as our journeyman coach kicks off a new era with Győr in the Hungarian second division.

In Part 22, Shama introduced us to his new team, and welcomed back a few old friends from his past. He didn’t have much success at his previous clubs – Cambrian & Clydach in Wales, or Espinho in Portugal – but will another change of scenery deliver a change in fortunes?

Today’s chapter will take us through the first three months of the 2025/2026 NB II season, from August all the way to October. Will Győr enjoy a strong start in their bid to return to Hungary’s top tier, or will the new manager make a right goulash of things? Let’s find out… Continue reading “Journey of a Deadman: #23 (Győr) – Feeling Hungary”
